Will it work?
I have seen a few "Adapter" kits and was wondering what all is actually involved.
The tranny is from a 70' GTO w/ a 455.

Make sure the bell housing or adapter you use works with the length of the input shaft in the trans. There were different length input shafts available depending on make. A close ratio BW T-10 was OE in the 65-66 GS Skylark and the bell housings were specific to these cars. These bell housings are very hard to find, and expensive when you do. Some after-market bell housings are available to use the Chevy trans with the Nailhead, but you will have to look around to see what is available both new and used (and/or out of production).
I added a picture of the 425 and 4-speed set up bound for my 66 GS vert. I ran the cam in last week when it was warm. Now it is oiled and closed up for the future. It was very good motivation.
