I recently read a Chiltons manual for this procedure and they suggested removing the actual axle. I thought this was excessive. Please give me some suggestions as to what tools and procedures. This would be of great help.

Thanks

i had to replace this part on an 88 cutlass and the parts may have changed slightly, but the procedure is not too difficult. all that is required is basic metric wrenches and sockets. remove the caliper and rotor to gain access to the four bolts holding the bearing carrier to the suspension assembly. a large wheel puller makes the job easy, but with patience, you can simply wedge it out with a blade screwdriver. there is an o'ring buried in there someplace, so be careful not to cut it. the bearing itself, is a press fit into the carrier, so don't get any allusions about replacing just the bearing. a fresh replacement is around $90.00 at NAPA, but if you are not afraid of parts having some experience, a junk yard piece will run about $25.00.

Your '93 Buick hub bearing is easy to remove if you have an air impact gun
and basic hand tools ., but the socket to remove the axle nut is metric
36mm .If you donot have these tools it might be best to pay a shop to replace your axle hub .. the axle nut must be very tight or you can do a lot of damage to the front end . HTH Guyopel

sorry that i forgot about the 36mm nut. guyopel is right, you will need an impact wrench to remove it. i don't see you breaking it loose with hand tools unless a lot of leverage is applied.

You didn't mention anything about the lower ball joint. I thought it would be necessary to remove the cotter pin and nut and pry it apart. Yes or No? Thanks again for everything.

You don't need to mess with the ball joint. The bearing assembly is bolted into
the steering knuckle.

If you don't have an impact wrench you should be able to loosen the 36mm
nut with a breaker bar. With the car on the ground set the emergency
brake while in park.

Mark the nut and shaft with a dab of paint to use
as a reference when you tighten the CV shaft back up.

Good Luck
