The cam you mention, to me, sounds like lots of cam for a 400 inch motor. If it was in a 400, you would want a manual transmission or high stall converter. In other words, it sounds like a lot. I have a 300 4bbl in storage, and your request makes me want to take it down and measure the cam. That would be some interesting information to have on the site. At the bottom of this page, http://www.buicks.net/shop/reference/stage.html you will find the specs for a stage one cam. Remember, if you put those specs in a smaller motor, it will be wilder. Conventional format means that the measurements are taken at .050" of valve lift. You will always be happier undercammed than overcammed.:waving: Dr. Frankenbuick 12-14-2005, 06:33 AM I know Crane had made a few "Fireball" cams for the 215/300/340. I had one in my 340 that had about .500" lift, but I can not recall the duration figures. That was a very nice cam with good midrange and top end power. It required a little more stall in the converter then stock, and I think I used a 2500 stall converter in the TH 400. The 350 Chevy boys never knew what hit them! Poston Enterprises (251-368-8577) in AL has four grinds for the 215/300/340. None of them require notched pistons, and they range from 260*/.460" to 310*/.523". The SB 114 draws my attention with 114 LC, split pattern 284*/294* duration and .488"/494" lift. Poston claims 35 hp over stock cams, idle at 1000 rpm, pull from 2000 to 6000 rpm and they recommend a 3000 rpm stall converter. |
