What would be involved with upgrading my naturally aspirated 3800 in my 99' Regal LS to a supercharged 3800? Is it just a matter of changing some belts around and throwing on a supercharger from a recked GS or somthing, or does it mean internal upgrades and all sorts of other stuff? I guess what I mean is, are the engines entirely identical or is the supercharged one beefed up to take the extra power? I think I read somwhere that newer regal ls's like mine had all the internal strenghthening done and the only difference was the supercharger, is this true? Some help would be greatly appreciated.

You can check on www.regalgs.org (http://www.regalgs.org) for help, but it does go more in depth than just the intake manifold and supercharger. www.zzperformance.com (http://www.zzperformance.com) has a kit available for a supercharger, but in your case the turbo option might be better for HP gains! For ZZP just go under Grand Prix and there are your options. GP's have the same drivetrain, interchangeable! Here is a link to the supercharger upgrade http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=382 . The L36 is your non-supercharged engine. L67 is the supercharged version. Hope this helps!

the supercharged engine will have different pistons, it needs a lower compression ratio than the n/a engine because of the supercharging compressing the air. the computer will also be different. you're probably far better off financially as well as psychologically to just buy a supercharged car :)

The GS cars have 8-1 compression (low) so the Supercharger can be used. That is the same as the 84-87 Turbo Regals. I am not sure about the standard 3.8 but I would say it is around 9-1. I certainly agree with parkave. You would come out much better to simply sell the LS and buy a GS. There is alot more involved than simply bolting on the S/C. :shield:
