Step 1: Get car smogged. (if applicable)

Step 2: Find yourself a nice 4bbl BUICK (not chevy) 350, freshen it up with new timing chain, cam, lifters, and BUICK RED PAINT (step 2 optional, but recommended)
Add an HEI distributor from a 75-80 buick 350.

Step 3: Remove your 231 and trans according to instructions in service manual.

Step 4: Transfer from the 231 to the 350:
a)rubber motor mounts
b)alternator and power steering brackets, and A/C comp. bracket if your car has A/C (a buick 350 is basically a 231 with 2 more cylinders and a longer piston stroke, so all brackets will bolt up)
c)engine harness (if you removed it with the 6-cyl) you might want to lengthen the distributor power wire, but it's not mandatory.
d)transmission. (It will bolt right up)

Step 5: Install engine and transmission in reverse order of removal. Yes, it does BOLT RIGHT IN LIKE IT WAS MEANT TO BE.

Step 6: Cut down 6cyl fan shroud to accomodate extra length of V-8, and install. Install 6cyl fan, belts, and (shortened) hoses.

Step 7: Hook up all fuel and power lines, fill radiator and all other fluids.

Step 8: If your car has A/C, clearance the right valve cover to your evaporator enclosure by starting engine.

Step 9: Using any means necessary (meaning drive if you're not worried about cops, use a flatbed if you are), go to an exhaust shop and have them plumb the 350 into your existing exhaust. Now is a great time to upgrade if you haven't already.

Step 10: Go eat some Hondas and Chevys and 'stangs for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, depending on which applies.

Have fun!

Seriously: This is almost as easy as the post says. There should be tons of Buick-350 powered regals running around. Sometimes I think it's like my secret or something.
