How the heck do you remove this bolt? Pressure on it with the breaker bar turns the harmonic balancer as well as the bolt. How do you keep the balancer still?

A good impact gun & you will need a special pulley puller to remove the
balancer .. the normal pulley removers will not work . You need to be
careful around the cranksensor ( left side of eng.)HTH :beers:

Well I got the bolt out - and you are right- a regular pulley puller does not fit. where do you get the special puller from?

autozone and a lot of the other chains have tool rental policies. have you tried one of them?

Yes , try autozone parts or advance auto, parts . The puller has three small
bolts that go through to balancer ,a long pin at the center bolt ( to push insde of crankshaft ) be careful with the three small bolts they are hard to start & strip easy and with your pulley being worn the inside will slip and the
bolts will jamb up against the inner hub . :clonk: and you can take a pry bar
to move the inside hub.Hope This Helps :beers: and good luck.

My puller is from autozone- The center shaft provided however does not thread into the crankshaft hole- should it?
It is smaller than the hole...

That is correct it does not thread into the crankshaft the shaft goes in the center & pushes from there. the three bolts screw into the back hub .

Well, my problem now is that as I tighten center piece on the puller (as it gets very tight) the whole balancer turns as well. What can I use to keep it from turning?

Yes it will , one side of my puller has a flat side and I use a large wrench
to hold the pulley from turning or if you can raise the car use a pair of vise-grips on the flywheel ( becareful of teeth on flywheel ).Hope you get this pulley off .. it goes back on alot easier and you use the pulley bolt to pull
up the cranshaft pulley. :beers: HTH guyopel

What thread size where the bolts you used with your puller?

i've used a "special" bolt i made from a head bolt with an allen head. ground down the threads so it fits in the hole, a thick washer between the puller/bolt so the puller doesn't get stuck in the bolt head and used a 3 jaw puller, hooked to the outside ring (where the belt goes), but be careful of the sensor.
