remove the distributor cap and note the position of the rotor.
bump the starter with the ignition key and take a second look at the rotor.
this new position will tell you the direction of rotation.

remount the cap and attach your number one plug wire to the twelve o'clock position on the distributor. the number eight plug wire is next in the sequence.

follow up with the remaining plug wires in the firing order sequence, and you've got it.

well 1st I had a new baby in feb, a boy name Colton, I have been working on the car as much as possible, It is getting back together slowly, but I do some thing on it every day, hope to have her running for spring road trip to Texas, or that is the plan, the plug wires are still kinda freakin me out , you know the simple things, left or right/// if i am standing in front of the car # 1 is where left alternator side or rt power steering side I will be in touch thank you all

#1 is always the first cylinder on all motor and all configurations.

That is easy on inline engines, and so is the count 234...

On V-8 engines, because the second cylinder on the crankshaft places the second piston to the other bank it is not alway so easy to see which is first. If you stand beside the car you can usually decide which one is first, that is your number one.

The cylinder count can change after that. Most count odd on one side and even on the other which would resemble an inline engine count, however there are exceptions to this rule where after establishing the number one they count down the one side then the other, should I mention "Ford"?

Jett,

If you go to the shop section there is a heading "Wiring Diagram"
It has the Schematic for the 300 & 340.

#1 is on the drivers side front closest to the fan.

Left and right on a vehicle are always determined from sittinr in the drivers seat. Therefore left is drivers side, right passenger.
