hey there, i posted up a while ago on this topic. So far i have been gathering up the parts and learning more and more about this not so common swap.

has anybody done this? that is put a GM 700R4 automatic transmission in a 3-speed Buick using the stock Straight 8 motor.

i have pretty much worked out the mounting in my head, using the adapter plate i bought on line. The part that worries me is setting up the shift cable for the trans, i hear it is very delicate and requires precision in order to properly work and not burn up the trans. i am also unclear as to the "kick down" on the 700R4?

if anybody out there has done this, or knows more than me, can you please post up a list of things to buy or any helpfull tips. i will begin the actuall work the weekend after July 4 (i have one last car show to attend).

thanks!

I used the LoKar shift cable assy. the first time out and had some trouble with the shifting--was hard to shift the gear shift. It worked but not smooth enough for me. I am putting in the LoKar floor shift now and I think this will fix the problem. As for your kick down---it really isn`t a kick down per say, the cable pulls a gruved sleeve, as it is pulled it lets the tranny fluid thru the gruves and distributes fluid into the valve body. What I did was get it adjusted enough that the valve would move when I accelerated. I didn`t have very far to drive to the tranny shop and they finished the TV cable adjustment. You need the TV cable for the tranny and a bracket that goes on the carb for the other end of your TV cable. Have you installed the tranny yet? On another post I have mentioned that you may have to cut a section out on the tranny tunnel---moving the tranny back the thickness of the adapter may cause you to hit the tunnel, it may also cause you to lose your excisting foot feed linkage--you may have to fabricate a suspended gas pedal like on the new cars. You will most lkely have to have a flex oil tube--Mildron makes a nice one. What about the rad, your old one has no holes for a tranny line? Or just run a nice remote cooler. Good luck

Thought you could use this link: http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0307sr_transmission/

good article.

There is a source for straight 8 adaptors to Turbo Hydramatic transmissions, I will find and post.
