View Full Version : How did you come across your first Buick?
darkfall_13 02-22-2005, 01:43 PM If that long of a subject line even shows up, then you know the question, otherwise "How did you come across your first Buick?"
For me it began when I was 18... last year... looking for my first car in this little city. The paper always had stuff way out of my price range like newer mustangs or Jap imports. But then I was in luck because my girlfriend's parents said they'd give me their old Subaru if I helped shovel some manure. I wasn't too sure about wanting the car but I did the job because she was my girlfriend. But then the next day my dad's friend comes by and says he's got an old car if I'm interested, for $500. Now both were in my price range. The Subaru needed some suspension work and alignment which I've never done. While my pop's friend said his Buick Riviera was running when it basically retired in the driveway after some dissection. So I had the choice between a little 4 banger or a huge 8, and being a guy I obviously went for the 4. lol. I checked out the Riviera twice the first time overjoyed because this car could be close to mine, ignoring the 4 large rust holes, the mushrooms and other fungi growing on the carpet, and the nausous smell on the interior. Oh not to mention the hood that had seen better days and the pools of water feeding my interior garden, and my own personal pools in the passenger door and truck! This car was loaded! Check out the monstrousity on http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/593614 (I'll be posting some more pics soon as I have 1 more quarter panel to do body work on and prime). And these pics were the first day we got it home and I took it a bath and cleaned the interior, take for example the redish stain on the passenger side floor, that was some weird gelatanous fungus thingy, it was actually really nasty to clean up. Well I don't know if my dad's friend felt sorry for selling this thing for money or what, but he said he'd just give it to me if we helped move it to my house, that way I could be putting the money into the car.
Damn was I in for a long trip. I kept telling myself I could have this thing on the road in a month. Well it sat in the driveway for nearly 8, but I must admit I know it ran, I got that going in the month, and I could move it back and forth in the driveway oh yeah! I've put over 100 miles on it now just driving it around a bit on the weekends when I come back to town from my college. And the exhaust leaks horribly, but I'm damn proud of where I've gotten it so far. Too bad I didn't get the Subaru lol!

darkfall_13 02-22-2005, 02:47 PM She honestly was happy I didn't get her parents car. She has visions of one day having my car in the Sea Cruise which is a big event here. Ironically enough though she always gets mad at me for working on the thing too long.
Dr. Frankenbuick 02-22-2005, 06:04 PM Moms hand me down 67 Skylark 300-2 was my first Buick when I was 17 in 1979. It was retired with a broken frame in 1981. By then it had a rebuilt 340-4, a TH 400, 3.23 gears and the serious respect of more then one Chevy 350 owner. I still have the front clip from that car.
Bernard 02-22-2005, 09:06 PM My first was a '62 Special 2-dr hardtop that could double its sheet metal at polishing time. I was very young then and I'd polish a fender at a time with Blue Coral while my wife washed baby diapers at the laundromat. The car was fast. It went from one gas pump to the next faster than any car I've owned since.
Tom Gallagher 02-23-2005, 01:39 AM My First Buick: Love Affair
I bought my Uncles 1954 Buick Roadmaster 76R for 200 bucks in 1968 Senior Year in High School.
What a Ride! All the other Guys were buying GTO's and SS for Big Bucks.
Little did they know!
The Girls wanted Crusiers not Brusiers
That Big Land Yachat served me well that is until it was totaled by a Snow Plow (Michigan 4 Yard Front-end Earth Mover)while parked in 1975. Took out the Trunk and the entire drivers side, bent the frame. The operator hit backing up.
For the life of me I dont know how he couldn't have seen it. (Those BIG lead filled Rubber Tires did a real number on it)
It was only a block long and the width of the street.
He just about backed over the entire left side with those big wheels.
The I got a '64 Wildcat that lasted untill 1979. Strong runner. but the body, floorboards and frame rotted out.
In 1984 I bought a New LeSabre. I had it until Oct 2003 (I had just bought my'56 Special 2 door hardtop Model 46r) with only 275,868 miles on it still running strong when my wifes sister who borrowed the car got broadsided by another driver who ran a stop sign. Luckily my sister-in-law just as a couple of bruises. The car full-frame was just about bent in half. My Wife cried, She LOVED that car.
Besides My '56 I have a 2000 Supercharged Regal as my Daily Driver.
When Better Cars are Built, Buick will build them.

jwc191 02-23-2005, 07:05 AM i just got out of the USAF in 1966 and a friend of mine introduced me to a used car manager at a buick dealership because i was looking for a ride. he had a 1965 225 ragtop and he let me use it for a weekend. i fell in love with it, but the price they were asking was a lot of money. i asked him how much differance between that and a new 225 ragtop, only $1500.00 differance. so i ordered the new one, a 1967, midnight blue ragtop. i loved that buick. had it until 1972, when it was stolen, stripped and burned. now in 2004 i found my 1975 lesabre conv. sure glad i went back to buick, she is a joy
sergio 02-23-2005, 09:32 PM After dealing with nasty fords for my early years, my family and I found a '74 Buick LeSabre Luxus for sale around the block. I was around 12 years and it was the only nice car that my family could afford. I learned most of my driving and mechanic's skills from that car. I had a g-friend in middle school whose mom had a '72 Buick Riviera Boat-Tail. I eventually got one of those. I had to sell it when my son was born. 3-1/2 years later, I picked up a near mint '63 Buick Riviera after staying up too late watching the Patrick Swayze movie, Roadhouse! The spirit of the '74 LeSabre still lives on though. I've upgraded the front brakes on the '63 Rivi with parts from the '74 LeSabre. Buicks Rock!
Jim W 02-28-2005, 05:24 PM When I was 11 my dad took me to the local Buick dealer. While I was looking around, he told me to go and sit in the 65 Gran Sport near the front doors. It was without a doubt, the most beautiful car that I had ever seen in my young life. The way the tail light went all the way across the back, the sleek lines, and the round hood ornament with the Tri-Shield Buick logo. It was as white as white could be, and was all red inside except for the headliner which was white. It had bucket seats, and an console with a floor shift. Remembering back, it did not have any options except for Power Steering, power brakes, and an AM Radio. It was the 2-Door Post model. The coolest thing that I thought it had was the hub caps. They had small holes all the way around them accented in red, and a spinner in the middle with a bird logo that matched the silver ones on the fenders, now I'm aware that was Skylark. It smelled so fresh and new, I'll never forget that as long as I live, that was the first brand new car that I had ever sat in. After about 15 minutes had passed, he got into the drivers seat. They opened the doors (huge sliding glass doors), and he slowly eased the car outside. I thought that was pretty cool, and was ready to open the door and get out. I was rather suprised when he kept going, and drove the car all the way home. As it turned out, he had bought it on the spot. That is why my friends, I am now in the process of getting a 65 Skylark, and am going to GS Clone it.
Jim.
Tom Gallagher 03-01-2005, 12:27 AM graemlins/wavey.gif Hey Sergio!
How U Doin'? I hear You LOUD and Clear on the Fords. If They have a "Better Idea" I think they or either still looking or their engineering is what you would call Autistic. I changed the 3.8 motor in my sister-in-laws ThunderTird last summer.
It was absolutely the worst nightmare I ever encountered. The ford 3.8 blows head gaskets at about 60 Thousand if not shut down immediately the engine is junk or a good boat anchor. The bearings just desintagrated.
By the way in car magazines Buicks are often referred to "Bufords" which turns my stomach inside out, upside down and backwards. Does anyone know where that expression comes from?
Regards,
Tom Gallagher
Robert Bates 03-02-2005, 06:52 PM I saw the car I just purchased last summer, on Main St, Nantucket, just days after the young lady had bought it. I left a note on the windshield informing her that I would be interested in purchase if it was for sale (for sale sign on back seat). Phone call informed me that it wasn't for sale, but she would keep me in mind if she ever decided to sell it.
Her father called me the last week of February and said she wanted to sell it due to her needing a 4 wheel drive for better constant use out here on the island. Gave a decent price and acquired the car, now the work begins in earnest

I bet You own the ONLY mid 50's Buick on the Island. How many other Classic Buicks are out on "THE Island".

wildcat68 03-03-2005, 12:33 AM All the time I was growing up, my mom and dad had a 68 Wildcat 2dr custom- turquoise, black vinyl top, and platinum silver interior.
We took all our vacations in that car- I can still remember how dad would merge on the interstate- mash the throttle- flick the wheel- and you're merged and flying....
Mom used to take us to school in it, I even came home from the hospital in it after i was born.
My mom died when I was 12, and shortly after Dad sold the car to a guy who destroyed the engine racing it.
I bought it back, and still have some parts off of it.
I now have one of my own which i'm in the process of restoring- so every time I drive it, I'll have memories of Mom and Dad and all those flying trips we took in His Blue Wildcat...
Incedentally- Dad now has a blue and White 64 Wildcat 4-speed, and a Fully loaded 70 Wildcat, and I have the 68, a 64 'cat and a 57 Century 2dr as well as a 61 Lesabre Bubbletop
Tom Gallagher 03-03-2005, 09:45 AM Your Dad has a '64 Wildcat with a t-10 4 Speed!
That is a really rear car. there were only about 40 made that year. I don't know what the exact brakedown is but something like 23 were put in coupes and 17 in convertables. Never the less, it was a rare option and few examples survive today.

theoldguy 03-03-2005, 10:21 AM I bought my first Buick in 1947. It was a 1931 model 57 and the engine was disassembled and most if it was in the back seat. I put it back together and drove it through my sophomore year in high school' I then got a 37 century and drove it until I passed my Dad doing over 100 mph.He sold my Buick and got me a 39 Pontiac. it was a DOG, but probably kept me alive.
Robert Bates 03-03-2005, 10:26 AM As far as I know I have the only one, and I have just gotten acceptd into my first parade with it. We have a large Daffodil Parade the last weekend of April.

Topless64Skylark 03-05-2005, 06:37 PM Long read, sorry 'bout that.
It was about 3 & 1/2 years ago that the Buick bug contacted me. I had quit smoking in Jan. 2000, and found that I had some extra disposable income available in summer of 2001. The search began for a suitable candidate at this time.
I was really wanting a 63 to 70 Chev drop top, but discovered none in my range. A 69 Electra 225 convert appeared in one of the local papers, for a decent price. One phone call, and a quick visit later, $1,800.00 Cdn made left my pockets, and I drove her home. It need some work, but was essentially all there. I drove it for a year, collected some parts, intending to restore it.
Well, sometimes, my interests change, and I sold it a year later for a small profit. graemlins/hurray.gif
My intention then became to save a larger pile of cash, then buy another Buick needing less work. In my part of the world, rust is a major concern, and it's costly to repair. graemlins/angry.gif
One whole entire week passed by, and a 64 Skylark drop top appeared in the Buy & Sell. Uh oh....looks like my plan might not happen graemlins/smash.gif Must resist calling number, must resist....aaah screw it, called the seller, $3,500.00 Cdn later, owned my second Buick
which I still have.
I have since bought another 64 Skylark mainly for parts, plus a 68 Electra 225 4 door hardtop for the powertrain. The Electra is too nice to part out, so it's likely going to be made road worthy over the next few years. I've an offer to sell the Electra to some guy to demo derby it,  but can't bring myself to let that happen.
Then, one of my dream Buicks hit my radar screen, a 65 GS coupe. This one I had to drive 1650 miles to get, but it's worth every penny it cost to buy, pick up and import into Canada. It's definitely a keeper. Unfortunately, my 64 Skylark might have to go this spring. :(
That's my story graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Oh yeah, found a 71 Boattail Riv for sale today..........must.......resist......phoning..... ..no more room in yard graemlins/sad.gif
darkfall_13 03-07-2005, 07:46 PM Heh all these are better stories than mine. I was supposed to take the Rivi down here yesterday but my cat ran away from the cat shelter (hell I would too he was next in line for a good neutering) so I didn't get to do my preperations to be utterly sure the thing could make the trip. There's always 2 weeks from now since next week is spring break graemlins/banana.gif
And I've got the pics uploaded of how it looks with primer on it. http://members.cardomain.com/darkfall_13
smokums 11-10-2005, 05:04 AM i was 16, and my parents and i were trying to find a car for me. i kept telling my dad i want an older car, a classic car. ofcourse i never thought i would actually get one, and if i did i expected it to be a beater. a few months went by and all i could find was way out of my price range, and what was in my price range i didnt really want. then one magical day my dad came home and told my a friend of his at work was selling a 69 four door buick skylark. well iv seen a few skylarks but never this one, so i went on the net and checked it out. i didnt find too many pictures but the ones i did find defenatly sparked my interest. i told my dad i wanted it. this car too was out of my price range but i guess dear old dad was in a good mood that day cuz he bought me the car for 2500.
a few days later i was sitting up in my room after school just relaxing for a lil befor i went out. and my friend calls me up all excited. he starts yelling into the phone " you got to come out here your car is here, get out here now!!!" without even saying a word to him i hung up the phone, actually im not even sure i hung up the phone. i ran outside as fast as i could, completely forgot to put my shoes on. i came flying out the door then stoped dead in my tracks when i saw this big blue beutey rolling into my driveway. my jaw dropped and the drool began to flow.
i was amazed at what i saw. never did i expect my first car to be like this. it was in much much much better condition than i expected. almost no rust, just tiny little rust bubbles underneith the rear window, and a few paintchips on the hood. it also had a crazy radio the guy tried to install him self....he messed that up. had to do some rewiring because of that. but besides that it was beutiful. the first day i took her out on the road, i drove it for hours. i even slept in it a couple of times i loved it so much. even if i wasnt driving it i was under the hood or in the driverseat just taking it all in.
im proud to say i still have it and its running fine. it needs a little carb and throttlebody work, and new suspension. but all in all runs great. i dont plan on ever selling it, running or not. this car will be mine until the day i die. it also made me fall in love with buicks period. i definatly plan on buying another buick in the future.
Quijote 11-13-2005, 12:40 PM Omygod. Seven years ago, in a rainy & cold night, assisting amused to the ceremony of disloading classic cars carriers to the big Barcelona's Auto Retro Show, disloading big semis from all Europe, I saw this dark green beautiful menace onto the top desk of a french semitrailer.
Inmediately I reminded "Christine".
I had got sixty classic cars before, every type but Americans, but this was the definitive fall in love at 1st. glance.
I bought her THAT same night, before getting her out of the truck.
Now we are some threesome or something about: Me and my two brilliant Emeralds -the one with black eyes and the other with Sedanette body-.

Dr. Frankenbuick 11-13-2005, 01:07 PM What year and type is the car above? Christine sounds like a 59 Electra 225 to me!

MY FIRST BUICK-1934 McLAUGHLIN-BUICK 8-61S CLUB SEDAN (6 WHEELER) :wavey:
I'm able to recall my first Buick, it was a 1934 McLaughlin Buick, 6 Wheeler, Club Sedan (5 Window-as opposed to usual 7 window configuration). I was a kid of 22 and went looking for a project car. Ended up in Whitby Ontario at an old car dealer and restorer (Still in business) - Fawcett Motors. I asked Ron if he had any old cars in "as found" condition, and he said yes. I got a couple of old Buick sedans out at the farm. Next thing you know we're on our way out in a 1964 Lincoln fordor convertible screaming down dirt roads on the way to the "farm" where he kept his spare cars. We arrived and there was the neatest looking old monster I'd ever seen. It was huge and terribly neglected. There were seats, but no door glass, and the chrome had pretty much been removed. This was someone's parts car. But the motor was complete right down to the air cleaner.
I bought the car, but as I was a student, Ron Fawcett took pity on me and allowed payments of $50.00 a week. He wanted $250.00 for the car and threw in a parts chassis which had complete running gear as well!
I owned a Volkswagen Beetle at the time, (6 volt!) and went up one weekend to try and start the car. I didn't trust the gas tank, and set a can of gas on the cowl with with a gas line down to the carbuerator. When I saw the gaskets start to leak, I knew we had gas!
The ignition and key were there! but couldn't get the starter to engage, then I recalled a 1959 Buick in which you had to hit the accelerator in order to engage the starter. I tried it on mine, and it started to turn over!, but it seemed like the Bendix was broken as it kept kicking back out. I took a chance and went into the back seat. A lot of boxes of parts were there, and got real lucky. Under the seat, was a crank.
I put it in neutral, set the throttle down just a fleck turned on the ignition and went out to crank the engine. Because of the way the crank was designed and the support you got from the grill, there was good leverage, and after three tries the car started. There was a huge cloud of red smoke and a large explosion as the muffler disintegrated almost instantaneously. It was huge, nearly 4 feet long!
With the car now running, I wasted no time and climbed inside. I got it into second gear with out lugging but I could not get the engine to rev much above an idle. I was idling fine and would pull the car but no faster than about 7 miles an hour. I figured that was safe, but underneath there was a major carb problem.
After a little while, there was a bit of steam as the old hoses were leaking pretty badly (I had filled it with water), I came back to the starting point in the field (this was still at the farm) and turned it off. I was smiling from ear to ear. I had found a pair of plates which were likely from the car, dated 1950, so possibly that was the first time it had been running in over 20 years!
Getting it home was another story, but that afternoon was fantastic. I later that day found out what was wrong with the carb (a huge thing by the Marvel Carbeurator Company). The float which was cork, was no longer attached to the needle and seat. The steel tang that held it on had rusted through! No wonder I couldn't get it to rev! Other than that everything else was fine. These were great engines, the water pump was gear driven as was the generator, and there was an Oil Temperature Regulator, or heat exchanger there. This was a very sophisticated car.
It was the first year for independent Front Suspension. This was not Knee Action like the Chevs (poor system), but a very strong unequal A Arm type, made up of all forged components. The frame was a boxed X member, rivited and as deep as 9" in some areas. when I took it out to get sand blasted, they asked what kind of a truck it was from!
I had the head off for a hot tanking and clean up and all they did was replace three guides. The darned thing was in great shape.
Turned out Mr. Fawcett sold the car cheap because he didn't like sedans. If it had been an open car, it would have been something else. But this notwithstanding, there are very few of these cars around today, probably less than 3 in Canada. Car still exists, but was never restored. It's out in Prince Edward Country somewhere....

madmaxx182 11-14-2005, 11:08 AM my first buick was my uncles. he got it when he was in high school(in the late 70s) from a famer in tennesee. he was driving to fl. and got lost that was when he sean it and he had to get it it was a 69 buick riviara. the car was belly deep in mud it took my gramps and him 6 hours toget it out and put it on a trailer. he yanked to blown 430 and found a 70 455 he started to rebuild it took him 20 years and 8 grand to finaly build this car to is specs. then in july of 05 he called me up (from fl.) and told me if i wanted it i could have it. i jumped at the chance to own the car my mother was allways talking about.
she didn't run in 7 years. i had to put a new intake gasket on with a new fuel filter. after i draind the gasand put high test in it she fired up like a champ i still kneed to put break lines on it , ut this is one car i will never let go of>
regal1973 11-18-2005, 08:44 PM My encounter was my grandfather had a 1948 straight 8 buick when I was young I think the one of the last years they build them in Australia before our own motor industry took off.
My dad came upon a 1975 225 electra that had just been converted to RHD in 1978 that was like new and he still has the car today all orignal ex the conversion.
I purchased my 1973 regal 2door in 1984 that had been in the country since the mid seventies & converted to RHD. I tracked it down to being a ex hire car out of Los Angeles.
The car was clean but not in the pristine condition of dads 75.
In 1989 a drunken girl slammed into the back of it & after her insurance paid out. I set a task to rebuild it with some mods such as paint, mech rebuilds & other cosmetic mods but did not get it back on the road until 1998 as I had a new toy being a 1982 collector Corvette plus home renervations & the buick was put on hold for another day being nearly 10 years before the car was on the road again

wakejeep 05-06-2006, 09:19 PM I'm still waiting on my first actual experience with a Buick. I've only heard stories. My dad had a '70 GS 455 that was totalled by a drunk driver running a stop sign and T-boning him. This happened way before I was born (I'm 20) but we still have the 455/turbo 400 in our garage. As soon as I started to show interest in cars my dad started telling me stories about his GS and how its the best car he has ever owned which is saying a lot see as how he has had tons of cars including a fully loaded vette he bought brand new his senior year of high school.
Anyway, now I'm searching for the right GS to give a home to our 455/400 so I can have my own Buick experience and give my dad a shot at reliving the glory days
I don't know if this helps, but I ran across another forum with the following in a thread:
" Yes!, i'm happy everytime i see someone call a buick powered ford a buford...
there are so many people who just call buicks bufords and that is totally wrong and sucks..
history lesson for everyone else
BUFORD= BUICK POWERED FORD
(IT DOES NOT APPLY TO CALL A BUICK WITH AN BUICK ENGINE A BUFORD, THATS JUST A BUICK!)"
chevo 05-07-2006, 12:34 AM In 1952 my great Uncle Earl bought a 1952 Buick super brand new off the show room floor. 30 years later my Father recoverd it from a field in Oklahoma. Yup, just brushed the snow off of it, put a new battery in it and drove it back to Austin, Texas. a few years later my father sold it to my Grandfather who, later, inturn, sold it to my fathers best friend. Joel passed away last year (r.i.p), and the B-52 sat where it had since '93. At that point i knew I had to bring the 52 back into the family, before she was lost at an estate sale, so I jumped on it. $500 dollars (sale price) and $2000 in "bringin her back from the the dead" money, and she rides again. The other day my dad gave me an old pair of sunglasses that had been Earls. Some how the B-52 looks even better through them....

bigblock68 05-17-2006, 07:09 PM My mom found the car on Ebay, and I admit I was VERY skepitical at first but I liked the body style. The car was local so we went and looked at it. I loved it, and my dad made a deal with the guy that day (I didn't know that part) and I've happily been pouring all of my money into the car for almost a year
Edit: Also forgot to mention I have the best parents anyone could ever ask for.
Jim Carmichael 05-18-2006, 04:21 PM My father drove Buicks when I was growing up and one day when my Ford was not running I used his 1948 Roadmaster 4 door. I have a vivid memory still of sliding all the way across the slick seat-covered seat and banging up against the right door when I tried to turn into our service station where I worked.
Working there I got to see a lot of new cars and always thought the 56 Roadmaster was very cool but could never afford to buy one. I had a chance to buy a 1953 Skylark when I was in the Air Force in Roswell, New Mexico from the local wrecking yard that sponsered our 1955 Buick race car but did not have the money or space to store it. I sure wish I had picked it up somehow.
I have owned over 20 old Buicks and worked as a mechanic in a Buick dealership for about 7 years. While working there I had a customer who bought a new 1964 Buick Electra 225 4 door hardtop with bucket seats and a dual carb 425 with the Turbo 400. I have since tried to locate that car with no success.
The best Buick I have restored so far is a 1956 Buick Special 2 door hardtop that I painted a custom shade of pink & white. I used the pink as the original color was the salmon color that was popular that year but I always hated it. I sold that car back in the early 80's for $12,000.00 so you know it turned out well. The people that purchased the car said it brought them a lot more attention than the 1958 Corvette they had just sold.
My 1953 Buick I bought on ebay thinking it was a Roadmaster as it has 4 portholes on each side and the chrome window mouldings showed up in the ad photos but I found someone had cut another hole in each fender then added the porthole and the chrome mouldings to a Super.
I bought the 1952 Super on a whim because it was close and the right price. I have done a lot of refurbishing to it and enjoy driving it while I work on my other Buick.
I am changing my picture as the one I used was from a few years ago and I was catching some flack about it not looking like the 62 years that I am so here is one taken today 5/18/2006
63Electra 05-18-2006, 05:15 PM Hi We are new to the group and thought this would be a good way to introduce ourselves. I am Kathy and my better half is Tony we live in Reno Nevada and have had our 1963 Buick Electra 225 since 1996. We were looking for a second car for hubby to use for work, saw the ad in the paper that said NO SMOG NEEDED and we were very interested. To our suprise it ran (pretty well I might add) it did not look all that great though, everything was there but did not look pretty.(only one crunch in the rear but paint was very very dull) Tony likes BIG cars always has and this one fit the bill that is for sure! So for 700.00 CASH we drove it home! It needed breaks (ohhh that was a fun ride:coo:)
We started trying to learn more about our 'new' car and found out that it had (has) a Nailhead engine and a Dynoflow transmission. And even found old papers in the glove box and it has been a fun toy project. Tony worked very hard to bring back the luster and is a crome freak. We have had the tranmission rebuilt, breaks, mufflers wheels and tires through the years but besides oil and the like that is about it! We still enjoy it very very much but nowadays it is HOUSED in the garage because "those new wheels have never and will never see water" isnt he cute..LOL This year we are going to start working on the inside.

nipsit 06-12-2006, 05:48 AM My son was looking for his first car 8 or 9 years ago. He didn't have much to spend and we went to look at a 64 wildcat around the corner (it was the first car we went to look it and we bought it on the spot!) Fell in love with it. Even when its been out of commission and he's had offers to buy it, he's refused until recently. My son is not a mechanic and we are generally dirt poor, so it hasn't gotten the attention its needed all these years, but it still runs.
It was love and first sight.
