I stole the name from a talk show in the Mpls.-St.Paul area. The show is based on that everything should and could be figured out in the garage! The garage is the Mens crisis center. My garage is 31x26 heated, lots of large metal cabinets,12 foot work bench, torches, tool boxes, air comp. and a juke box for tunes. Been a motorhead since I was 14. Fix old jukeboxes as a small bussiness, this hobby helps pay for the cars. We have a 57 Buick Special, 60 Buick ambulance,72 Pontiac wagon (parts hauler) 69 Vette. What is your garage like and what brand X cars do you have??? graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Unfortunatly, I do not have a Garage. I am an out in the weather in a driveway sort of guy. I do however, manage to get things done one way or another. I would love to have a garage. The current project I have working is being done professionally, that is my 64 Wildcat Ragtop. The project I am working on myself is a non buick. It is a 92 Chevy Cavalier RS Ragtop, and I am installing Cold Air Induction, Throttle Body Bypass hose, and a Hypertech 122411 Street Runner Chip. I had to buy a code scanner, code reader, and an OEM Shop Manual though. This computerized stuff is all very new to me, but fun none the less. When the Cavalier is done, it won't catch my Wildcat, but it just might blow past my LeSabre Sedan, and trust me, that LeSabre is pretty darn quick. graemlins/beers.gif

Hmm garage... Well I personally don't have one as I live with my parents. But they have one :D But I picked up a '73 Buick Riviera as a project car and though it's a 2 car garage it must be for compacts as mine definatly won't go in and my mom's little '89 Chrysler LeBaron gets in with about 5 in clearance on both sides. And the garage is decked out with the best... There's a huge freezer then a fridge freezer combo, a washer and dryer, and my dad's Harley on the other side. Being in a family of a total of 7 people the garage gets full any way. Regretfully my dad's Harley is now buried under boxes from Christmas stuff and things from putting on a new top to my mom's car. I can barely get to the tool boxes or compressor most of the time anyway. So much of my work is just winding my way through everything to get stuff.

I've got the garage, the tools the cabinets the fridge (very important piece of equipment that fridge, where else do ya store those six packs currency for when you need a hand from a few pals!!!)
and whats it like? a mess! to many tools, too many projects and not enough time to work on them!
oh well one day I will straighten out this situation!

graemlins/wavey.gif Hey Guy's

No No Complaining or Bragging. Just thought I would have a little fun in regard to side effects. :D

As Far as Power tools. My compresser can't keep up.

We shouldn't be doing this type of stuff at home.

Garage Use only. Only If I had a Garage! Waiting it hit the lottery.
I wold need a variance to build on and my unfriendly neighbors (2 really old ladys) would never agree to it . graemlins/shooter.gif
A Garage would block their view when they are peeking out behind the certains. They have nothing else to do but mind everyone elses business. graemlins/clonk.gif
They tell me my car is a old peice of junk and an Eyesore. graemlins/smash.gif
They don't like my dog (American Bulldog 111 lbs)So I put up an 8 foot stockade fence. so now they can't look at it. When I put it up, one of the old biddies called the cops. graemlins/rolleyes.gif She has been in this country since 1947 (war bride) and still to this day can't speek a word of english. What a travesty. The crusiers showed up and the cops wanted to see my car, and were really interested. Neither of them had ever seen a '56 buick. They both were really impressed with the dash and instrument panel which is flawless and pristine. I started up the nailhead and they nver saw the push pedal to start feature which they thought was really kool and they loved the sound of the nailhead with smitty's mufflers. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Now they come to see me at the park on tuesdays cruise night, with the dog riding shotgun.
A couple more Buick Fans. One of the cops wants to get his hands on a 70's boat-tail Rivieria.

Thank's for the Advice.

Well, you may have to sweeten the package. Supply each man with 1 bottle of good white wine, 1 dozen Red Roses, 1 Bottle of Extra Strenght Viagra, and 1 dirty movie. Oh yea, don't forget the industrial sized bottle of nitroglycerine pills :D

Hello,
I built a 32' x 50' garage 9 years ago that has in it a all of tools and equipment that a gearhead could want. There is one large problem with all of this and that is a very angry lady that will not allow me access. I have been in the process of getting a divorce now for 29 months! She keeps playing games and the system is allowing it. By the way the court system and all involved SUCK!

Inside the garage is a 55 English Ford Popular (Pro Street), 1940 Buick 4 door sedan model 40 about to be street rodded and many extra motors and parts to numerous to mention.

Take care and by the way those old lady's don't look so bad to me under these circumstances!

Daryl,

That sure does suck!

If it has been allowed for 29 month, that is certainly a travesty of Justice.

Oh if I only had a garage...I have never had a garage in my life ever. I can only imagine. Having a place to go work on the car rain or shine must be great. I know you guys probably hate me but it was 75 degrees today here in Florida.

All you need is 4 sticks and a plastic tarp in Florida, the next hurricane would blow away the garage if you had one any way. LOL

graemlins/wavey.gif HEY Guys
It sure beat crawling around the frozen snow covered ground like a serpent.

If I had a garage, I would make sure I had Radiant Heat in the concret floor My Brother-In -Law has it in his garage and the floor is warm as toast. He can regulate the temperature. He has Antifreeze in the system a pump circulates the water in a closed system and the heat is provided by a water heater. In winter he keeps the temp at 50, but if he is going to work on his cars he cranks it up to 80. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
A real nice feature for those of us in northern climates.

True,

In the winter you can always pile on layers of clothes.
When it's hot you can take it all off and still be uncomfortable.
In the heat you body reacts...Sweats.
In the winter you body reacts...Frost-bite and lopping off body parts.

I just have to wait and hope that my free time will jive with the weather. If it does, I get things done, if it does not, I'm screwed. That is why it can take me weeks to accomplish a 20 minute job. I will have a garage once my Wildcat is done, but it will only be large enough for storage, not to work in.

Haha, well living in southern Ontario Canada has its benifits but weather isnt one of them. Its nice and warm in the summer with days getting up to 90 degrees. Then there are the days in the winter like today where its hitting record lows of like -2 degrees fahrenheit. I work on my car in my unheated gargage, and being that I'm in the army I usually like to do things the army way which means using brawn instead of brain alot of the time. This results in alot of busting of knuckles on various hard, sharp, pointy objects. It's not all that bad in the summer, but those of you that know how much it hurts to be slapped in the winter can imagine how much it hurts to ram a fist into the side of a cylinder head for example when a wrench slips. graemlins/banana.gif

I do feel sorry for the guys who don`t have a garage! I did my share when I lived at home, my Dad always wanted a garage but coulnd`nt afford one. So I do remember back in the stone age when I did my work outside----in Minnesota---hey by the way it was -54, thats below ZERO you southern climate boys,Monday nite. I remember putting a four speed in my 60 Chev one early December--it was snowing when I started and when I was done the snow had got as high as the rocker panels--had to push the snow out so I could get out from underneath. After those days I said I would always have a garage and heated too. It took till after I was married and I have been married 35 years, never go back to working in the COLD. Hey it hurts the pocket book to build one but you will never regret it!!!!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Two winters ago, mainly due to my own stupidity I got a pretty bad case of frost bite. It was at least -5 degrees F below. (It was around midnight) and I was outside with a bunch of good looking girls toughing it out because I forgot a hat.
We were throwing eachother around in the snow and at some point I noticed my ears were getting very cold. I just continued to tough it out thinking not much of it. It was only later on when I touched my fingers to my ears that I realized the skin was as hard as an icecube and felt like one to. I don't know if any of you have ever had your skin freeze, but its a very different experience. It literally goes rock hard and there was ice forming on the outside of it so that it was slippery like an icecube. It felt like if I were to try and bend my ear, it would just snap of. (Probably would have, so its good that I refrained smile.gif ) Any way, I finally decided to go inside and after 1-2 hours of painful rethawing, I went home. The next day the pain was so bad that I went to the doctors. He said that if I had stayed out maybe 10 minutes longer, I would have had to lose part of the top of my ears  . That basically taught me a lesson and having flaky skin fall of my ears for the next month also was a good reminder of how much it sucks to get frostbite. graemlins/clonk.gif

Sometimes it is foolish.

Sometimes it's just having fun and you take chances and forget about the consequences.

Sometimes the little head does the thinking for the big head.

If you live in the city your urban--live in the country rural. The higher your CI the more honored you are. This includes all cylinders--cars,lawn mowers, engines not installed, ect. Somtimes callers would fire up what they got and you could listen on the radio--some very interesting stuff. 50-60 CI count for city guys is about average---being into old cars helps----and their are some CI girls that put the guys to shame. The show is based on a town called Garage Logic in Gumption countie. The dj is the Mayor and fireworks commissioner, taxes only for the fireworks the rest of the year your on your own. Hello!!
Much talking about to have an garage. Here in Finland you cant do anything on your car in Wintertimes if you dont own a garage. My garage is not so big but warm. If outside temp is -20 C and snow 30 cm you cant restore your car outside. Then its very nice to have a temp on +20 C inside the garage.
Me and my -65 Special Convertible are wating for summer: warm and sunny cruising days.

Greatings from Finland

Well, let's see. A few years back I fought the zoning wars and erected a 20' x 40' stick-built garage with a 10' ceiling (visions of a lift dancing in my head) on my 34' wide back lot. Spent free time the next year insulating, the next year sheeting the inside walls with OSB, and finally added heat last fall. Youngest son graduated from college in December, so end of tuition, child support, etc. Hope to begin working on the 64 Skylark drop-top sometime this spring. Can't imagine not having a garage as even with this I don't have any room to work. In addition to the aforementioned Buick, also have most of a '56 Chevy sedan delivery out there along with assorted parts and pieces, air compressor, engine hoist, engine stand, fridge, freezer. As I refuse to scrape ice in the mornings here in SW lower Michigan, I need to keep my daily ride under cover over night also. Waiting for warmer weather when I can park the Jimmy outside, and begin to extract the 300 and switch-pitch for a rebuild and upgrade along with installation of the 200-4R also sitting in the garage. Cylinder index is only 21 though, unless I count the air compressor, which brings it to 25. Not sure if I'll be able to do all I want, but I've been a gear-head most of my life, and it's about time I try. Be prepared, because if I do get moving on this, I will be inundating the board with pleas for help!!
