Is the buick service manual a good source for rebuild info on this engine?
And is there a source for the correct pistons, gaskets etc. for this?

(http://www.buickfarm.com.) But don't expect to pay 350 Chevy prices, 'cos it won't happen! Best of luck, Malc dferrier 06-25-2003, 11:35 AM Thanks for the reply. Someone just gave me this car. Its been sitting in a field for about 6-8 years. It has a manual transmission with the shift on the tree with a 2 barrel carb. I have not pulled the engine yet but I am trying to pull together as much technical info as I can on this engine and heads, valve train etc... before I do very much. I am trying to decide if it is worth the trouble. I am also wondering what parts (if any) will fit on this engine from other gm engines. Some of the performance things I am thinking about include: a little longer stroke if I can find the right crank, some valve work and porting on the heads, a little hotter cam would be nice, headers, electronic ignition, 4 barrel holley carb., automatic tranny.... So what does anyone think? This engine worth some or all of the above? Could I get some decent horses out of the 340? (assuming the block is sound enough to begin with of course). Or would I be better off stuffing a big block in there? When I say "better" I mean more horses for the buck. |
