I have a 67' skylark with a 340. I'm in the middle of replacing the exhaust system at school as well as putting on headers that I bought from poston. (Im doing it at school because I don't want to have to crawl under my car in my dirty garage in the middle of winter here in canada so I opted for the lift ;) ) The problem is, as I was taking off the right side manifold I found some tubing running from the manifold to the carb and this is when I remembered about my car have a hot air choke style carb. The exhaust system is in pieces and I have 12 days to get the car out. I was planning on buying an edelbrock 4 barrel carb with electric choke soon anyway but right now, I just dont have the money. Is there any way that I could rig it to work in the mean time without drilling into my headers or exhaust?

There are kits available to convert your choke to a manual one, but why bother. If the accelerator pump works, all you need to do is dance on the gas pedal for a bit , and it will run with no choke.

It actually will choke and make it start fine. The problem is that it will run on high idle for a very long time. What you could do as an intrim fix is to take the existing tube and cut it to lay right on top of your middle header pipe. It will not be as good as before, but some heat will migrate up there. That should get you buy until you do the Edel swap.

Good Luck
