IM SURE THIS HAS BEEN ASKED BEFORE BUT FRANKLY I DO NOT HAVE THE PATIENCE TO LOOK THROUGH LISTS OF TOPICS TO FIND IT. IVE GOT A 72' BUICK 455 ENGINE IN A 81 REGAL AND IVE GOT AN OPPURTUNITY TO BUY A 67' 430 ENGINE COMPLETE FOR $100 IM SURE IT WOULD NEED A REBUILD BUT ALL IM INTERESTED IN IS THE HEADS. THESE WILL WORK CORRECT?? AND IF SO, WHAT ALL HAS TO BE DONE TO THEM TO MAKE THEM WORK CORRECTLY FOR MY MOTOR??

APPRECIATE THE INFO GREATLY. THANKS ALL.

yardley's hot tips for engine building. he's got info for using 430 heads.

the 67 head is 2cc smaller than the 72 (69cc vs 71) so you'll gain just a little compression. likely to be more important, you'll get a better rocker ratio (1.59 vs 1.55). you'll also probably want to use the 67 exhaust manifolds unless you're running headers.

and, of course, all of the 67 430 heads are 'big port' parts.

sounds like you've got a real winner there.

The 430 heads oil differently than the 455 heads so you will likely have to replace the lifters and pushrods. Its not a big deal and is done frequently, and unfortunately, I'm not right up on the procedure. Hopefully one of the other guys who has done it, will chime in here... there's more to this than a straight swap.
