it seems as if i always have to have my foot in the tank for this land yacht to move when i take my foot off the gas it slows down considerly but if i get up to around thirty five and shift into neutral the car flows freely i checked the trans fluid and the level seems to be fine because it is a 72 buick electra im kind of hesitant on changing the trans fluid what should i do?

you'll need to describe the problem a bit better than that if you want a good diagnosis.
You shouldn't be hesistant at all about changing the transmission fluid. It's easy to do, and remedies a lot of transmission problems.
When you take the pan off, drain most of the fluid from the pan and then look at what is sitting in the bottom, if you see little shiny bits of metal, then the transmission is blown and needs a rebuild. If there's a magnet in the pan, and it's got more than 1/4" of clutch material sticking to it, this means your clutch packs are worn out and you'll need a rebuild.
If you don't find any of this when you drop the pan, make sure you buy and gasket and filter kit as well. If that doesn't fix it, make sure everything is connected properly to the transmission like the vacuum line to the modulator, the kickdown cable, and the shift linkage.
Good luck!
