About 12 years ago I bought a 68 Skylark convertible with a 350 2 barrel. I changed that for a profesionaly built 455 with a 400 tranny and 10 bolt posi rear end.10 years ago I put it in my garage and got married, bought a house and had 3 kids. I pretty much forgot about the car,I really did not have time for it. I want to get it back on the road but I don't really know were to start. The car was fine when I put it away.I need some ideas were to start. Thanks for any help

the first thing you want to do is check to see if the motor will turn over by hand. If you can't get it to turn over, you might want to get a few of your buddies over to help you try and turn the belts or crank to see if the motor is free. if it isn't, then pour a little marvel mystery oil down each cylinder and let it sit for about a week or so. don't be too ansy with this stuff...just let it work. After a week, drain the oil in the pan, and pour in some brand new stuff. See if it'll turn over then. If your motor is ok, drain the gas out of the tank cause you don't want crappy stuff in there. (It just won't burn). Check all of your fluids, and just mainly once it is running again, just take it easy on it for awhile. don't go hotroddin around on it right away. Let everything kind of get brought back into working order again and then you can give it the gas and show your kids what kind of fun you put away to enjoy them a little bit more. good luck

Thanks for the help with my question. I got the crank to turn by hand and I pulled the radiator and the gas tank, I got them both cleaned. I pulled the water pump and cleaned out the engine as best I could.I just pulled the fuel pump which is a Holley and the carberator which is a holley 750. I called Jeg's performance parts and was talking to one of the salesmen about getting a pump and rebuild kit for my carb. He said something about the engine should maybe rebuilt before I try to start it. I keep getting the same storys, some people say it can start without any damage and others say it should be rebuilt first because of the oil slug and water passages that could have formed after 10 years. I just would like to know what buick guys think I should do with my engine Thank again for the help.
