The car is a 1950 Buick Dynaflow with the straight 8 engine. What I need to know is which transmission is in it? It's the automatic transmission with low and drive and there are approx 21 blots in a "deep" rectangular pan.
All Help Appreciated

Wingnut, this is from an orignal Buick-published shop manual for 48-49-50 Dynaflow tranmissions:
"An identificatio number is stamped into the bottom surface of the transmisison case diredtly to rear of the high(left) accumulator.* Originally, the identifiction number was a serial number with Series 50 transmissions identified by the letter "B" and series 70 transmissions by the letter "A" prefixing the number. Trnsmissions were stamped in numerical sequence as produced, starting with A-1 and B-2, and continuing to A-98355 and B52,325.
"After[those numbers] the serial number was discontinued. All Series 50 transmissions were then stamped with the same production identification number, D-1, and all Series 70 transmissions were stamped with number C-1. 1950 Series 40-50 Dynaflow transmissions have identification number "E" followed by a number. 1950 Series 70 continues with identification letter "D."
"As changes are introduced which affect design or interchangability of parts the number following the letter will be changed to 2, 3, 4 etc. This production identificaiotn number indicts construction but does not indicate production sequence.
"Since both the "A" or "B" serial number and the later "C," "D" or "E" production identification number furnishes the key to construciton and interchangeability of parts in each transmission, the number should always be furnished on product reports, A. F. A. forms, and correspondence with the factory concerning a particular transmission."
*The left high accumulator is a round shape with a hex-head bolt with very wide flange, off the left front corner of the flat-bottomed, left/right oriented sump pan; the transmission number is on a machined flat surface on the transmission case immediatly off the left front corner of the rim or lip of this same sump pan--outboard of the corner of the pan.
Hope this helps, Wingnut . .
