I have come into posession of an inline Buick 8 that has an ID# of 4966563 5. I am assuming that this is from a series 50 vehicle but
am unsure of the year. I was told this was a '49 but from references that I find the #'s should not start with '49 for that year. 1948 ID's start with '499...' but this is obviously lower than that. If it is a 1947 would it not have babitted rod bearings? This one has inserts which brings up another curiosity because the bores/pistons are standard (like never been bored...ever).
Although I've worked on nailheads before I'm new to inline Buicks, so any input from those in the know as to what I may or may not have here would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to build a brain-base and a reference material collection enough to not get into too much trouble as I get this jewel back together again but until then I must ask the proverbial newbie stoopid question(s)and beg your indulgence and support.
