I'm trying to change the belts on this car...The bolt on the motor mount with the bushing that needs to be removed hits the side frame rail..Buick says you need to jack the engine up to clear this rail and remove bolt?? what kind of an engineering idea was this and is it true?? The belts already cost $60. and they discounted them..Any help on this would be great!!
Bob, the shop manual procedure is similar to but not exactly like the steps you are trying. The weight of the engine has to be relieved by jacking up on the oil pan. A large block of wood is needed to distribute the force across the pan. Then the through-bolt is pulled out of the torque axis motor mount. Then the nut and stud are loosened from the engine mounting bracket. The jack is then let down so that the engine is below normal position. Then the stud can pass by the frame rail to allow removal. Then the spacer will come out as well.
This is a short version of the entire procedure. It's probably easy after doing it one time. No special tools are indicated. If you want it, I can scan the steps from the shop manual and e-mail them.
