My 63 LeSabre with original 401 and 2 Barrel has recently developed a problem that I'm hoping some of the pros out there can point me in the right direction on.

The car starts and idles just fine- no problems at all. However, when I'm just pulling out in the morning and the engine is still cold, the old girl stalls on me. Literally, I have to limp the car along at almost a standstill for a few minutes- press too much on the accelerator and she's sure to stall.

When the car is well warmed up and has been driven for a little while, the tendency to stall goes away, but I can still feel a hesitation when I press the accelerator that's never been there before.

What things should I begin looking at first to correct this problem?

Thanks,

Chris Rorrer

If the car hesitates when you touch the gas pedal but then recovers, I would look at the accelerator pump in the carb.

I think these were originally made from leather, which can dry out over time, especially if the carb goes dry for a while.

Could also be timing related, but I'd look at the accel pump first.

Good call, Bob! I replaced the accelerator pump over the weekend with a new one, and she is back to her old smooth and well behaved self. Thanks for the advice.
