I have lost my owners manual for my 1960 Buick Electra 225.
Any idea what type of oil (ie. 10w30) and how many litres / quarts to use for a routine change?

Although I don't know specifically what your capacities are, typically, you use 4 quarts when just replacing the oil or 5 quarts if changing the oil and filter. If your still unsure then after you've drained the oil and removed the old filter, first prime the new filter by pouring some fresh oil into it and letting it absorb. Then, add the new oil, checking levels as you add... Make sure the car is level when checking the level. Probably add the first 3 quarts then check. Doing it this way, you'll probably only need to add 4 quarts before it reads full. Once full run the car for a few minutes then check the oil again once the oil has had a chance to drain back to the pan. You don't want to overfill the oil pan.

As far as type of oil, it will depend on where you drive and what the weather is like and how many miles on the engine. On my 67 Electra the manual calls for 5w30. Currently I run a full synthetic 5w50 because I run the car summer and winter. You want to use a lighter viscosity in the winter (5w30) and a heavier viscosity in the summer (15w40) on conventional oils. I personally don't like using anything higher than 15w40 because it's a little too thick to get to the top end of the engine quickly after start up. One caution when using synthetics... they tend to cause a little bit more weeping through the gaskets than conventional oils, I may be switching back to converntional.

Hope this helps, Good Luck graemlins/shield.gif
