Hello Group,

I am trying to help out a good friend in sunny Eastern France. He has a 1968 Buick Electra 225 Convertable.
He is trying to find out what kind of Hydraulic Fluid is used in that convertable top system. After calling the factory, their records
only go back to 1972, and they said that they could not help.

Does anyone know that information? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks
Paul

try transmission fluid. like mercon/dexron3.
we use it at the shop for just about everything that uses hydraulics and we haven't had a problem yet.
Also the fluid for my 71 skylark's top has red fluid, and it feels & smells like tranny juice.

Yes, Fisher Body div. of GM converted from brake fluid to automatic transmission fluid in the Hydro-Lectric top system beginning with the 68 models. There is a filling procedure in the body manual that will prevent spillage or overfilling of the system. A small container of fluid is connected to the reservoir plug via a hose. Then the pump motor is operated up and down to pull in fluid and expel trapped air. If you want to send your friend a copy of the procedure, I can scan it in.
