i was talking to someone the other day about re-building my straight 8 engine,i asked him about hardening the valve seat covers etc so i can use unleaded gas,he told me i could use unleaded anyway,i still want to overhaul the engine later on this year but dont want to do any damage as i use the car quite alot, any thoughts

If you use the car a lot, I personally would have hardened valve seats fitted. For occasional use the engines seem to build up a "memory" for leaded gas, and should be ok for several thousand miles. Put it this way - how easy and cheap is it to get a new head? If you damage yours beyond repair can you get another at short notice? An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
