Hello everyone,
Well,my worse fear has been realized. The person who had agreed to rebuild my 264 confirms that he doesn't have the time to complete it.I will be picking up my engine, and will have to assemble and adjust the rocker arms, and some other parts.I have never adjusted valves, let alone assemble and adjust rocker arms.I have the shop manual, but remember,I'm the guy that you all helped pull his first engine out of the engine compartment.I'm lost. What's the worse case senario of damage I can do to the engine with incorrect adjustments?I'm scared to death of trying to figure out the various strokes and top dead center. This is part of the reason I wimped out of trying to rebuild it myself. When you find some time, would you please give me your thoughts and advice. Thanks in advance to all who respond.

Don't worry too much... there's a first time for everything! What your doing is pretty basic, and there's lot's of people here who will help. I understand from your post that the engine is assembled except for the valve train and probably other accessories. Was the rebuilder pro or what?
You should probably describe what was done to it. And you should probably get it ready for starting before you instal it, subject to other comments here.

It ain't rocket science and you got help here so don't worry just ask these guys questions as you go and take your time. The stock rockers are not adjustable on a 264 were the heads milled or the block decked?

Hello bob &Judd 56 46R,
Thank you for responding, that really takes a load off of my mind.I pick up the engine saturday, and I'll ask him the questions you have asked me.This Guy was recommended by the Buick club president here, and is supposed to be a retired machinist. He says he needed money and went back to work, and doesn't have time to complete the terms of our agreement.I can understand his situation, but after waiting for him to reassemble my engine since november (when I watched him install the pistons and crankshaft),I'm not feeling good about him leaving me with a partially assembled engine.I did purchase and have sent to him all new parts.I did dissassemble, and tag/mark every piece that I removed.I did deliver the engine to him. When he asked for money for machine shop work,I sent it out promptly, and the checks were cashed promptly. He was supposed to be finish in November.
When I begin adjusting & timing with the help of you guys,I will be careful, but very hesitant, because I've not done it before.I had hoped to avoid this exact problem, but I believe with your guidance,I'll get through it okay. Thanks again.

Hey Judd,
I just re-read your post.It IS rocket science when you're a neanderthal like me when it comes to mechanics :D .

Iddie,
You may think you're a neanderthal now, but don't worry, by the time you've finished this engine, you'll believe you're Tommy Ivo ( if you don't know, ask an older friend who loves drag racing )
Best of luck,

Hello Malc,
Thanks for the response.I think I've seen Mr.Ivo on TV.I received a phone call tonight and now he won't be home this weekend graemlins/angry.gif .Sooo,I've got to wait for him to call me next week.I just want to get my engine back from this guy now.I don't want to anger him until after I get my engine.I'm ready to start on my engine,I just hope he hasn't screwed it up.I'll start asking you guys questions as soon as I get the engine. Thanks again.
