When starting out from a standstill on level ground or on an incline,I have to really gas the car as I let out on the clutch to get the car moving.once moving the buick bucks and jerks before settling down.Do you think this is a clutch adjustment problem,or is the clutch shot? Can the clutch be changed without pulling the transmission? How do I adjust the clutch? When I get the buick moving fairly fast In traffic,I can shift easily. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks in advance.Iddie

Going from the 55 Shop Manual-- the engine revving suggests clutch slippage which can be caused by misadjustment. The grabbing and jerking indicates grease or oil on the clutch driven disk. To change the clutch out, not only does the transmission have to come out, but the rear end and driveshaft have to be dropped as well. I can send you the pages from the shop manual to see more details.

Todd,
Thanks for responding.no need to send me the pages as these problems are way over my head.I guess I'd better check my piggy bank, and start looking for a mechanic who knows something about old Buicks. Thanks again for taking the time to help me .
