39 Century

My 1939 Century has the Gas Tank filler door built into the rear drivers side fender. When you open the door you have the filler pipe and gas cap staring at you, however unlike the more modern cars, there is no ( catch basin)(for lack of better terminolgy
You know while your filling up if you get a back splash of gas, there is a built in basin type thing that catches the gas and has a little drain.
My 39 does not have such a basin and I was wondering if in fact it was suppose to have one in 1939, and mine is missing or maybe they weren't built that way. If anyone knows I would appreciate a reply.
At any rate it appears to be very dangerous, because the exhaust pipe runs down the same side of the car near the frame rail and the filler neck pipe. Stopping for gas with a hot exhaust and filling up isn't very comforting with this configuration. I need to manufacturer something to alleviate the situation.
I don't want to become the "Rockets Red Glare" while filling up :D
