I was wondering if anyone out there knew where I could find the replacement trim rivots for the front fenders on a 68 skylark? Anyone restored a 68 or 69 and replaced these? Any help appreciated. THanks

The hardware to attach these parts was pretty standard automotive stuff. No part numbers or sizes are given. The hardware was included with replacement nameplates or trim. The trim referred to in your message is the brightwork piece around the wheel opening I presume? The hardware for it originally was a Phillips head sheet metal screw. These did have a tendency to strip out fairly easily once the thing was tightened up a few times, so the rivets may have been somebody's permanent fix in the past. For what its worth the hardware to attach these moldings on the 68 full size models was #8-18 x 3/8. An aluminum or stainless steel rivet around that size should make a good repair. downshift 05-08-2003, 09:23 AM thanks, though I was mainly concerned with the side trim that runs the whole length of the car. I guess they aren't called rivots, my mistake. The piece of trim that runs the length of the fender is attached via clips that have a threaded post with a nut. It's the piece that you have to remove the fender to unscrew them. Thanks for your reply. TODD 05-14-2003, 11:12 PM Good news: with that extra info the search continues. The part number is a 1385099 retainer. It was used on 68 and 69 Buick models, maybe other years and makes. It is no longer in the GM data base for online parts vendors though. There are dealers in obsolete auto fasteners who probably will have it. I did a search with the words automotive, fastener, body. One that came up was RJ&L Automotive Fasteners. They specialize in pre-'70 hdwe. There is a picture of a universal fastener that looks like the Buick trim retainer. Their website is www.frontiernet.net/~rjlfast (http://www.frontiernet.net/~rjlfast) Good luck on the search. |
