I have an 84 lesabre. The words and the border around Lesabre Limited Lite up on the dash board. Stopped working. I took it apart thinking it was just a regualar 194 bulb or something like that. I found 4 wire connector, and a circut pannel attacted to the piece. Investigated the wiring and found no voltage. I found a small box that looks like a relay, with the same color wires and type plug. It was labled "Caution 110 vac". Does any one know any thing about this ? It worked for a while today, prior to it coming back on, my radio got lot of static. Help ????

My car is without the clock.

The box is an inverter which takes the 12 VDC and generates 110VAC to power up the lighted panel. The lighted panel is of the electroluminescent type. It is like the flat blue-green household night lights that plug into the wall. There are some exterior opera lights and sail panel lights on GM cars from the mid 80s that are built the same way. It requires 110 Volts to get the chemical layer in the panel to glow. There is no bulb to replace as you have found. If 110 VAC is coming out of the inverter, the lighted panel is bad. If 12V is going into the inverter and nothing is coming out, the inverter is bad. If there is no 12 V at the inverter, the wiring to the inverter is at fault. I can send the diagrams if you need them.
