View Full Version : 55 Buick Special redneckjeff 09-19-2002, 08:58 PM have 55 buick special and think it is Canadian built how can we tell? This is the serial# on the right fender well tag: 54469800678 HELP! TODD 09-22-2002, 02:09 AM Jeff, yes it is a Canadian-built car. The serial number format matches the Canadian-built serial number format in the Canadian 58-64 Buick Parts Catalogue. There should be an engine number plate nearby that also uses different numbers from US models. A 9- prefix on a Canadian engine number indicates an autoamtic transmission car. On your serial number: 5= 1955 model 4= Buick 4= Special Series 69= 4 door sedan 800678= production serial number unique to that particular car The last part resembles a US body serial number. It may be the 678th 55 Special 4-door sedan built in the Oshawa, Ont. plant. In cases where US-built cars were imported into Canada, these used the American-style numbering formats as shown on this website. |
