i have a 55 buick special that i cant find
the vin. i spent a ton of money on it, and
i cant register it without a vin. can you
help me find it. the vin plate is missing
off the door, after the paint job years ago.
thanks.
The VIN is supposed to be stamped on the frame. Look on the left side frame rail near the master cylinder. The number should be in form of 4B1001001, where 4 indicates Special series, B= 1955 model, next digit is the plant where car was built, and 001001 is the serial number for your particular car. Good Luck.

Hi todd thanks for the reply. I have search the under side of the vehicle from every possible angle on the left side of the frame rail by the master cylinder. I have had no success. Can you be more specific around the master cylinder area where the identification number should be. Example between the floor board and the top of the rail on left side. The other question is can the body by fisher tag give me any clue which is mounted on the cowl on the right side.
I could be wrong, but I think you should find it on the top of the frame as described by TODD. The stamping may not be of very high quality.
