Help, I am trying to decode my 62 Skylark. What are the following?
trim=138
acc=A6
body=FB18874
The very first number on the plate is 07B above the rest.
I have determined the paint TT was Fawn Mist Metalic and it was built at Flint plant.

VIN Number is 3I1596043
3 =?????
I = Flint Michigan Plant
596043 = sequential production number
????'s: What does the 3 stand for?
Erik
Erik, the initial 3 stands for a Skylark series car. The I indicates a 1962 model. The 1 indicates Flint, MI plant. The first car in this porduction sequence was #501001.
The 07B is a build time code. As a guess, this could be 7th of Feb. The FB is another indicator for the Flint plant. The 18874 is the body serial no, which will not match the other nos. on the car. Wiil have to look around some to decipher the rest.

Thanks for the info Todd,
I guess the body number would indicate the 18874th Skylark built (There were aprox 34000 built) or maybe the 18874th 2 door coupe body? Any way I just want to get the car running again. It only has 65400 orig miles before the previous owner rearended someone. I found rebuildable body parts and have the radiator out being rebuilt. Need to change the fluids and buy a battery to get it started. Thanks again.
Erik
Erik, I get all confused trying to decipher how the cars and bodies were serialized. Any guess would be pure speculation. Don't know if the numbers started counting up for all cars, all cars built at the Flint plant, all compacts, all 2 door compacts, or all Skylarks.
Sounds like it will be a cool car once it's back on the road again.

The lark lives! Recored the radiator, replaced the water pump and belts and she fired right up!

The pevious owner rearended someone four years ago. Smashed the nose in destroying the radiator, and waterpump. He parked it and didn't touch it again. I got the radiator rebuilt and installed a new water pump. Only thing I need now is a new fan pulley.
