Hello! Just bought a 1962 Buick Invicta convertible in red with ~92,000 miles. Everything seems o.k. on her but the transmission. It is, the best I can describe, mushy. The car has no get up and go. It has trouble getting up hills, starting from a stop, etc. Seems as though the transmission is slipping. What have I got here? Any help is appreciated.

The Dynaflow feels different than any other transmission. The best thing to do is floor the thing and see how high the engine revs. If the engine seems to free rev, you may have a tranny problem, but if it goes to 2500-3000 and the car seems to leave the corner well, then the trans is probably OK. Slip it into low and jump on it and the RPM should be higher ,but you should be able to light the tires if you do not have a posi.

Yeah, I don't know if this is true of the 60s dynaflow, but I know that in my 57 she's got 2 gears and unless I put it into low, she only uses one of them. It makes for a very big and very powerful car with very bad acceleration. It gets better when you jam the pedal down, but you're definately not going to win any races.

I'm getting the feeling that the Twin Turbine transmission's not too quick off the block. It's certainly got more pep and pull when I drop her in low, but nothing extraordinary. In drive, it seems it takes a fair number of revolutions to get up hills and other grades. I'm just trying to get a baseline on how these transmissions perform so I can determine if mine is subpar and in need of some help.

Therein is what bugs me about my tranny. I remember, as a kid, driving my grandpa's 1962 Buick Electra with the 401. It had a ton of pep out of the hole, as I recall. It wasn't logy at all. Must be something not right with mine.
