Daniel, there is a screen in your transmission that requires cleaning when the fluid is changed (recommended every 24,000 mi), but according the the 63 shop manual and Buick parts lists, there is no filter. A new pan gasket should be installed, and the transmission must not be flushed when the oil is changed.

As far as the parts store goes, you may have to tell them next time your car uses the Turbine Drive transmission, which is technically the correct name. Buick did not call their automatics Dynaflow after 1958. However the 59-63 full-size automatics were built out of pieces from the same parts bins as the earlier units.

Some oldtimers will still refer these 48-63 automatics as one-speed units since no upshifting or downshifting occurs once the gear range is set on the selector. The extra gear reduction available in Low range is not ever used when the transmission is in Drive range. That would explain the statement about the first 2-speed (a wholly different design) coming out in 64.

The 61-63 Dual-Path (used on Specials only) is another unit altogether. It is a air-cooled unit and more like a Hydra-matic than anything Buick built up to that time.
