I recently bought a 61 Buick special complete basket case and am putting it together. As far as I can tell it is a air cooled trans. it has no tranny coolant lines to the radiator or any fittings on the trans to attach any lines to.This is the first one I have ever seen and I am wanting to make sure I install it corectly. If anyone has any info or advice to me it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kid
Kid, yes the 61-63 Dual-Path transmissions in the Specials were air-cooled. That must be the reason for the large cooling fins on the converter pump. It must have worked, there doesn't seem to be any trouble stories going around on this unit.
Since your car is already taken apart better obtain an original Buick chassis shop manual and a body manual for it. In used condition, they aren't expensive at all. Find them on ebay.

Kid,
If you wnt a Service manual, Go to ebay and there is a company called Crankin Hope Publications. They make a top notch reproduction of early Buick manuals. I bought my 64 Riviera Chassis and Service manual from them, and am very impressed. My problem is, is that I cannot for the life of me find their number http://www.buicks.net/forum/frown.gif Just do a search on eBay for Buick Service manuals and they will pop up with many!
Wait!: I found their number and email address here goes: 1-724-459-8853
