I don't know of any, but there has been some good articles in Street Rodder and Rod&Custom. Give them a call for back issues.

Hemmings Rods & Performance July 2001 issue has a small article on Buick engines. Not much tech info, but it's a start.

I was looking through Poston Enterprises' catalog and found a book that might help. It is "The Buick Engine Book" part 1. It covers 63-75 engines. In chapter 4 it has a section on 401 and 425 Nailheads. You can reach Poston at 1-800-368-9781. Hope this helps.

I found a 425 (at last) with a trans. from a '65. I also found a 401 build up in street rodder 1997 issues (all through the year). MARTINSR what do you use (cam, pistons, etc...) and any mods I should do ?. It's going in a '50 56s street (daily driver but I live close to work).

Dan,
Is there any way that you can scan the articals and send them to me? I went to Street Rodders website and they only have issues back to 2000. Good luck on your build-up.

On the way into this web board you passed a page with a "motorbooks" ad on it. Go back to it a click on it. It will bring up "Guide to Buick Performance Engines". I don't have it yet, but it looks interesting. You can also find Buick books in the amazon section of this site.

When you are ready to purchase click on the "carparts" banner on the front page and see if they have what you are looking for.

If you use the links from these Buicks.net pages, you help assure this site's survival.

i have the book but it only has a little info on the nailhead. i was just wondering if i should look out for anything (like a common problem) during tear down or any tips for putting it back together. boxman i only found the january issue and it said that they are doing a build-up of a 401 or 425 (through to nov. or dec.). i'm hunting down the rest of the year.

this is getting weird, i couldn't find a decent 425 or 401 for a long time (without buying a whole car) and now i have 2. i bought the other one, a '66 425 single 4bbl with the trans, broken right exhaust manifold, complete minus alt and bracket (with p/s). now i bought (still have to pick it up) a '66 425 with 2x4 factory intake, correct carbs, linkage, fuel lines, factory aluminum valve covers (with "buick" on the side), trans and complete minus left exhaust manifold.

Sounds like you hit the jackpot! Good luck with your build up. Keep us informed on your progress. I would like to know what combination of parts that you use. I am looking at doing a rebuild this winter and any information would be helpful.

Dan,
You are lucky to have two.
Back in '86 the oil pump in my '66 Riv gave out and I went searching for another 425 to drop in it. Searched Hemmings,The Riviera owner's Assoc., The Buick Club Etc. for a couple of months to no avail. Then I happened across a '66 Wildcat with a complete and nice running 425 in a junkyard, made a deal with them for $200. And said I would return the next day. Well, I return the next day and found they had crushed the car, I went over to the guys pulling engines out of cars before they crushed them and asked about the engine from the Wildcat.
They're reply," we didn't pull that one we didn't think anyone would want an engine that old". I Ended up re-building the one I had. So, hang onto them they are gold.

typical junkyard attitude...eh? The stuff they crush is more desirable than most of the crap they keep around, they just have absolutely no idea how to promote it.
