This may seem like a stupid question...but...looking from the front of the car, what are the cylinder designations for this engine?

This is my first 50's Buick and I'm doing a basic tune up (points, rotor, dist cap, timing adj, plugs, wires).

Also, can someone confirm that this is the correct firing order...
12784563

and that ignition timing should be taken from TDC on #1

any other advice from anyone whose done this would also be helpful.

thanks,

jkn

The later Nnailheads 57-66 used the same firing order as you have listed, but I am not sure about yours. The later Nailheads also had the cylinders reversed from what you would expect and have listed. They are as follows:

Firewall
78
56
34
12
Front

You can make sure by turning the crank until the timing mark lines up wit 0 on the timing cover. Then take the spark plug out of the front cylinder on the passenger side. You should see it at TDC. Another clue would be if the timing pointer on the timing cover is on the passenger side of the engine. Let us know how you make out.

Your info is OK. The firing order and cylinder numbering given by Dr. FrankenBuick is also correct for the 55 engines.
