One morning a couple weeks ago I walked outside, and pulled back my door handle on my 95 Regal Gran Sport, and all of the sudden, I heard 'cling 'cling 'cling, and I no longer could feel any resistance from pulling back on my drivers side door handle. I opened the door panel, and discovered that the part of the door-opening mechanism that has the small circular weight at the bottom, had broken in half. My friend, who knows a lot about cars, said that the closest thing to a name for the part that he could think of would be a "Counter-Balance." I have called buick dealers and they say that they don't know what I am talking about, so I end up asking them how much it will cost to replace the whole door handle kit.. But I'd rather not pay for the whole door handle kit, because they say that (+ installation labor) will be $155.00, and I just don't think that is a fair price, let alone one I am willing to pay. I am wondering if any of you have
a) heard of this problem,
b) know where I can get just the "counter-balance" part of the door opening-mechanism, c) know of a fair price for the part, or the whole door handle, depending on what you feel I will need, and
d) know how easy it is to install myself (assuming that I know very, very, very little about repairing cars). Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate ANY input that you can give me. Please reply at your convienence, and preferably email me at timothy@fdsi.com if possible. Thanks again!!
