Road Hog 56

I have a 56 special and am considering mounting the body on a later model frame with a big block nail head or a 455. A mid 70 riviera has the same wheel base, 122 but the tread width is 4.4" front, and 5" rear WIDER on the Riv. than on my special. Any advice? Thanks!!!

Yes, 2dr Chevy Caprice, very close in rack and wheelbase. Now you just need to fab up mounts for the nailhead, and a crossmember for the toploader (well hopefully a 4spd anyways.

Wish I could assist; I just concluded that I should just stay with my 322 after building a 350 chev engine, getting a beretta front end, a TH trannie, and a Monte carlo rear end. The spacing at the front end just seemed to get too complicated. At this stasge, I take it that a Caprice chassis might match up without too much cutting? Sorry for jumping on the question; wish I'd seen this a long time ago.

go with Jagquar front and rear. you get 4 wheel independent suspension, 4 piston discs on the front and dual on the rear. Its not that hard to do. I put it under my 57 and its great, also lets you drop the car on the ground if you build the rear crossmember adjustable
