My son and I inherited a 54 Buick Special. We are attempting to restore. Any advice or pointers would be helpful for the San Jose, California area.
First questions:
What should the point gap be set at?
Where can I get a shop manual?
thanks
Gary Marcos
The point gap should be set at .016''. The original shop manual may be available in reprint from Crank'en Hope publications, cranken@yourinter.net, phone 724-459-8853. They come up on ebay now and then too. MOTOR or Chilton's repair manuals are good for heavy mechanical repairs, tune-ups, general repairs for all US cars around a several year period. Good luck with your new project.
try Bob's automobilia in atascadero (805) 434-2963, the last catalog (2000) I have says its $52.50. You can also find many, many parts on www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com)
good luck and have fun
