I'm trying to find out the year of my engine that was given to me out of a stock racing car. All the places where the numbers are at are hard to see. So the numbers that I am going by is the intake numbers and the block numbers. They are as follows. intake is B-1247331-1 , front housing is 1246055,rear top side of block is 455 over 1241735, Exhaust is B1238094. I was told that this is a big block 455, but I need to know what year the engine is from. The engine is original paint ,bluish green. the serial number that is in the buick id numbers listed in this site says that it is a 455 big block but from what i noticed is that the blocks where painted red. What car did this come from if not a buick skylark? 1972-1975. that where painted greenish blue and what type of pistons. high compression or low. I want to rebuild it before I install it in my 72 skylark with a 350 V8.

I don't know about the numbers, but if the intake has the AIR connector on the driver side of the engine, it is a low compression engine. The only 455 with 10-1 was the 70 . The later engines are all 81/2-1 If it has a HEI distributor,it is a 74-76 The later engines were not red. They were the blue- green you have
