Please help!!! my 300 marine buick is 180 degrees out. what steps do i take to fix my problem? do i pull dist. out and rotate 180 then put back in? like with a car? does a marine 300 have the same rotor direction? (clockwise) where can I order a new cap for my dist. mine has a huge crack. autozone just says unless we know what car the motor came from we cant help. The obvious question is how do you know it is 180 degrees out if you weren't the one who put the distributor in. And if you were the one who put it in, why wouldn't you just pull it out and turn it.....

I am sure the distributor cap is the same as for the car, just tell them its from a '65 LeSabre or Skylark.:thumbsup:

I am not sure on the 300, but the marine engines often run counter-clockwise. In that that case, the mechanical advance of the distributor is left-hand and the rotation of the distributor is counter-clockwise. Spin it over with the starter to see what direction the rotor is turning in the distributor. You might want to get a marine manual for that engine. The firing order on the intake manifold might tell us somthing it should read 18436572 for a clockwise engine, and maybe 12756348 (best guess) for a counter-clockwise engine.

I have a one-off Mallory distributor from a Buick 401 marine engine that needed to be converted to right-hand advance for the 425 for my 66 GS convertible. The cap neded to be changed as well because of the direction of the advance. So, I think you will need a marine cap if your engine runs backwards like I think it does.
