My A/C clutch engages as soon as the key is turned on, regardless of heater/ac control positions.

The wires going to my clutch solenoid are pink and pink/white. pink is ground.

From the solenoid connector, the wires are about 8 inches long, and go through another connector, where the pink/white wire changes to pink/black, and then the wires enter the wiring harness on top of the engine.

My wiring diagram shows the compressor control wire as dark green.

Before I start tearing into the harness, does anyone have any ideas?

What color are the wires going to your a/c clutch?

Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
Wow thats a good one! :clonk: You are correct the A/C clutch wire is dark green. Its been quite a while (10 years) since I did my 71 but as I recall there is a solid pink wire that goes to the coil and I am pretty sure the pink/black wire you mentioned went to that useless vacuum solenoid which was the early stage of emmision control. The solenoid was located in front and to the pass side of carb.

There has to be a dark green wire somewhere unless someone really butchered the wiring harness. I have a feeling if you find it, that alone won't solve the problem.
Good Luck
