Folks,

Recently bought a carb for a 1949 Super from the Buick Bugle classified. They sent a Stromberg AAV16.

The carb is now at the 'thecarburetorshop.com' for a VERY expensive refurbish. They have identified the carb as a 7-66 stamped Stromberg from a 1942 Buick. The date correct Stromberg would be stamped 7-69.

I'm not looking for numbers matching. I want the car to run like it did new from the factory. Do I keep looking for a 1949 carb or rebuild the 1942 and move on?

In 1942 I don't think they had a 263, is your engine a 263, or a 248? I do know if the jets are too small, the engine will run a higher water temperature. I'm not sure what year the 263 was introduced. Other then that I can't say, because I don't know the Stromburg carburetors that well. If you're not sure what size engine it is, check the serial #'s

The engine stamping is in front of the dist as in a "263". The stamping = 537b1125.
