After an interesting drive up 1-93 where I lost the brakes in my 54 Special today I have pretty much determined that the master cylinder is shot..Any advise on a simple upgrade? I'd rather improve than re-build....If there is not a fairley simple straightforward udgrade, any help in finding a replacement master cylinder ( rebuilt/nos) is appreciated. No desire to go through todays experience again ever.Thanks.

It must have been a terrifying experience that I can relate to, on I--93 in Mass no less. I am familiar with the area. Not a good road to begin with considering all those insane drivers out there.
Usually with an upgrade, location and replacement of the master cylinder is a concern.
I know that scarebird is one place right off the top of my head, where you can convert to a disc set-up.
Do you have manual or power brakes presently?
I will need that info to properly research.
If you archive your problem you can find quite a large list of Threads and fid a quicker, more comprehensive solution to your problem.
