my special has a vacuum leak somewhere around the intake.i found out when i started it up for a friend of mine and he said i have a miss(never noticed b/c im usually in the car when its running) and my friend tried to "suffocate" the car by covering the carb with his hands and it stayed running so i know the leak is around the intake but goes away when the engine is revved. does anyone know where i should look to eliminate this leak.the car is a 64 special w/a 300 ci(355 wildcat)4bbl.

does it have aluminum intake and heads.a buddy of mine had this happen, the problem was that he had an aluminum intake on cast iron heads .the mating angle is different

he has aluminum heads and intake because all 1964 300s came from the factory that way.
they're designed for each other. this is not to say that the aluminum hasn't warped or rotted through, but simply the fact that he has alum heads/intake doesn't indicate anything.
note that i pointed out warping. aluminum block components were very unusual in the early 60s. most owners didn't bother trying to find alum friendly anti-freeze and wound up overheating 215's and 1964 300's. later 300's were all cast iron so there weren't as many problems with them.
does anyone know where i should look to eliminate this leak.
get a can of starter fluid. with the engine idling and being careful not to spray it into the carb, spray down the carb base and intake gaskets. wherever the engine speeds up, that's where your vacuum leak is/are ( there may be more than one ).
you might also need to spray the throttle shafts, they might not be sealing.
