There is an insert that goes into the female spline line on the torque ball. The insert is a circle and the form of the circle is in a "U" shape. I think it's called the propeller shaft seal. Which way does it go in? I think the round metal part goes in first but I dont remember.

I'm sure I didnt explaine this right, but if you know what I'm talking about please let me know

hopefully this photo posted correctly. The shaft seal goes over the driveshaft spline, the seal is splined on the inside. take a look.

Thanks Justjoe, the pic you posted was going to be another question I had. The one I am looking for now is the seal that goes over the female spline that the one in the picture slides into.

The propeller shaft seal your referring to, is it leather or neoprene (rubber)? You need a special tool to get the leather version over the shaft. I made a tube out of roof flashing for this tool. It slides on the hard way!! the oil from the transmssion should force the seal against the shaft. All standard oil seals work this way. see picture.

Here is my horrible drawing of the seal.

I'm looking to see which end of the seal is installed facing the transmission. I'm almost 90% sure when I pulled out the old one that the metal part of the seal was facing the trasmission but that doesn't seem to make sense to me. I would think the open, rubber part of the seal would face that way to hold in the fluids from the transmission.

There is a lip on the inner diameter of the seal. It should point towards the tranny.
