So...I'm contimplating two different ideas of what to do with my 1950 Special Sedanette that I picked up.

One, I've been very interested in the process that this guy did...

A 1973 Rivi is the exact same wheelbase (only 1 inch difference) than the Special, and there's a world of frames out there (like this guy did) that could be used. Anything early 70's with a 455 comes to mind. This way, the car gets updated suspension, power steering....everything in one swoop.

Or.... I'm looking at putting a 401 nailhead / 400 turbine in it, and changing the rear end over to a 3rd gen F body rear end. Either way, there's lots of fabricating involved. But....then there's always the old suspension, manual brakes, and non-power steering in this method.

Which one would you do? :D

If it was me doing it(but it's not me). I would rebody the car on a later model frame. That way the brakes, trans, engine, axle, and everything would change over to your car.

Sounds like a lot of work to me!! Good Luck!

I have seen the complete frame/floorboard/chassis swap done on different cars, and tho i,m traditional, if a guy doesnt have the $$ and he,s saving an old beater like those guys you mentioned, thats the way i would do it. The car was a 50 merc, and it was a magazine article, They did it the same way, but used a 70,s Pontiac, it was almost a bolt in! and exact same length. a really a nice job and it rode, stopped, an steered, like a new car, plus, lowered it! There is a nice 50 Buick sedanet done out here in ca. and it fooled me plus was in a magazine also.
