Friend needs a clutch job on his 39, garages want way to much to do the job, going to help him do it. Anything I should know, I am 61 friend is 80, have done many clucth jobs, do know I better drop the rear so I can get the tourque tub out of the way. Where is the best place to get parts for this job? Should we have the flywheel cut? Thanks:confused:

Dad had his '38 Cadillac V-16 clutch fixed up by Fort Wayne Clutch in Indiana.
We were pleasantly suprised by speed of turnaround. The best job IMHO would be to send them the flywheel and clutch plate together, they can check the whole thing out then. Pat knew all about my 65 Wildcat clutch as well!

I've never had to get the flywheel resurfaced unless it's REALLY grooved. Parts are available, I believe, through CARS on the internet. I've never had a problem with their parts.

My experience with a '39 series 40 is that the only way to get rid of clutch chatter is to re-surface the flywheel. A new clutch on a non-resurfaced flywheel still stands a pretty good chance of chattering. I speak from my experience.
