Guys I'm going to start rebuilding my 1951 48D series 263 engine. I was looking at Mad Dogs rebuild kits and they are a great price at but I have seen them as low as $1100.00. Has any one bought a rebuilt can you tell me where you got the kit and price?

Also I had my piston bore .030 over and I was wondering if anyone has bought larger pistions, rings and if so where at?

Has anyone bought a kit that has a little more horse power?

its cheaper then $1,300...but its all basically OEM spec as i know.

i think egg makes different pistons for these straight eights for better compression.
check archived posts on here i think some of us talked about them before.

good luck.

I just got my 263 rebuilt...I paid about 800 for parts, not including cam and lifters, valves, or timing set (mine were OK)...I got it all from Egge.

Who rebuilt your engine, did you do it yourself?

Any tips you can share on your rebuild?

My local machine shop did it. They bored it .030 over, turned the crank .010, they had to line bore the cam bearing bores..Came out with .0015-.002 clearance on the mains, rods, and cam bearings. That's actually at the high end of tolerance according to the Motor manual, but that's how it turned out after all the work. They reused my cam and all lifters but one, which had not broken in properly when I replaced them. They also reused the timing chain and gears, as they had been recently replaced when I bought the car. It had two broken piston rings and a broken pushrod tip, which ate a ball stud on one of the rocker arms. That's about all I can think of; if there's anything else you need to know, let me know! If you have a Dynaflow, I recommend changing a few seals while you have the motor out. I replaced the torque converter o-ring and the front pump seal...Be careful pulling that big thing out if it's still in the car...That was a nerve racking few minutes with that 800 pound lump swinging 5 feet in the air...
