OK, guys, here's one more. Upon stripping down the distributor for rebuild I removed the plug from opposite the grease fitting. Behind it was a coil spring and nothing else. Should there be a ball bearing behind the spring to make a relief valve? I can't figure out the spring being there by itself. Thanks again.

The spring more than likely came from inside the grease nipple.

Can't be. The spring is longer than the nipple. Not only that, the nipple is on an angle and the spring could not have got out that way. But thanks anyway.
