that's the EIN or Engine Identification Number. it's closely related to your VIN and in fact the last 6 digits of the EIN should match your VIN. if it does not, you know someone has swapped in a donor sometime over the last 35 years.

unfortunately, the EIN doesn't tell us much more than that. if you want to find out what it's supposed to be you'll need to get us the 2 letter block code which should be stamped on the flat area between your #1 and #3 spark plugs ( the front two on the drivers side ). the first letter in this code will be a "T" (this designates the year, 1971 ) and the second letter will tell you the displacement and configuration.

RO and RP are 1969 Buick 350 v8's. your EIN appears to be from 1971 though, i'm confused.

anyway, i don't know of anyplace online you can get an exploded view but get an old "Motor Manual" or "Petersen's Big Book of Auto Repair" and they should have all the detail you need.

here's a Petersen's that covers 1970 to 1979. that should be close enough:

here's a Motor Manual from 1976, it should cover your 1969:
http://www.amazon.com/Motor-Auto-Repair-Manual-1976/dp/0910992452/ref=sr_1_74/103-3504825-8087004?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188628928&sr=1-74

this Chilton's manual should also cover it:
http://www.amazon.com/Mid-Size-1964-88-Chiltons-Repair-Manual/dp/0801985943/ref=sr_1_59/103-3504825-8087004?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1188629069&sr=1-59

any ideas on how to prime this new oil pump

http://taperformance.com/oilling.htm

you can buy the "Oil Pump Primer" + drill from TA or you can make your own by scrapping out an old distributor and using the shaft chucked into a drill.

if you've got the engine apart it's usually recommended to pack the oil pump with Vaseline before assembly.

or an easy way to change the rear main seal

it's physically possible to change the rear main with the engine still in the car ... but i don't know that i'd call it "easy".
